Catskill Caroling

CHS carolers pose on staircase during caroling tourAn annual tradition of the Catskill High School Music Department is to spread some holiday cheer around Catskill with a caroling trip. Over thirty chorus and band students participated this year. They visited Greene Meadows nursing and rehabilitation center, The Elliot senior living center, The Pines nursing and rehabilitation center, Catskill Elementary School, the Washington Irving Senior Center, Catskill Library, and caroled the streets and stores of Main Street as well, before finishing up their tour at Catskill Middle School and their High School. It was a great day of caroling that brought holiday fun and a lot of smiles to folks faces all over our community.

Santa's Helpers Carry On Tradition of Giving

students pack up food in gymIn a season filled with hope and joy it is comforting to know that the holiday spirit lives on in the community of Catskill. About one-hundred Catskill High School students participated in their school’s annual Santa’s Helpers fundraising campaign during early December and ended up collecting $8,480 to help feed families in need within the Catskill Central School District. With the money the students raised, they were able to provide sixty local families with over a week’s worth of groceries each. The CHS Student Government, who organizes this event, would like to thank everyone in our community who helped make this year's campaign a meaningful success. Learn more...

Catskill High School saw overall course failures drop 35% and the number of students failing two or more courses drop 56%! We are proud of the progress our students are making!

Art Class Takes “Zen-like” Approach to Design

students drawingStudents taking Two-dimensional Design at Catskill High School recently found themselves engrossed in a drawing project that explored the world-wide phenomenon of coloring books designed for adults. The market for adult coloring books has exploded in recent years, due in large part to the fact that, just like meditation, coloring allows a person to focus on the moment, helping clear the mind and creating a sense of relaxation and well-being.“We call this project the 'Zen Project,' which uses two of the many principles of art, contrast and pattern,” explained high school art teacher Wendy Doney.
