2008 - 2009 BUDGET CALENDAR

The public is encouraged to attend all regular and special board meetings.
Time is allocated for a public comment period to allow community members to make the Board of Education aware of their interests and concerns.

Location and Time:
Most meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Catskill High School Library on West Main Street.

December 14th	Review Budget Development Guidelines and Budget Forms distributed to budget developers
January 14th	Preliminary budget due to Business Administrator from budget builders
February	District management reviews budget requests, gathers data and finalizes First Draft of Budget
March 12th	Board Budget Meeting: Review of First Draft 2007 – 2008 Budget ; Approval of Legal Notice
March 26th	Regular Meeting: Budget Review
APRIL	Prepare absentee ballot applications, absentee ballot, related envelopes and instructions.  Approve Election Day Workers: Chairperson, Election Inspectors, Chief Election Inspector, Machine Custodians
April 5th	First Publication of Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Vote (Annual Meeting), 45 days before date of budget vote
April 9th	Board of Education Meeting, 7:00 p.m: Continued Review of Proposed Budget and Adopt Proposed Budget if possible
April 17th	Second Publication of Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Vote (Annual Meeting)
April 21st	Until 5:00 p.m. - Deadline for Submission of Petitions for Propositions and Nominations of Board Candidates
April 22nd	Drawing for determination of order for listing Board candidates on ballot
April 25th	Last date to adopt 2008 – 2009 Budget by Board of Education
April 28th	Submit Property Tax Report Card to State Ed and newspapers
April 28th	Mail district newsletter.
April 29th	Third Publication of Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Vote (Annual Meeting) Dates, including availability of budget
April 29th – Mary 6th	Budget Statement and required attachments must be made available upon request at each school building seven (7) days before budget hearing
Up through May 20, 2008 (Absentee Ballot List) April 21- May 20, 2008	District Clerk must maintain list of the names of all individuals provided with absentee ballots.  List is subject to public inspection and legal challenge until the day of election.  Clerk must mail an absentee ballot for every qualified voter who requests one.  The ballot must be mailed not earlier than 30 days or later than 7 days prior to the election day.
May 10th	Fourth Publication of Legal Notice of School Budget Hearing and Vote (Annual Meeting) Dates
May 6th at 7:00 p.m.	Budget Hearing (at least seven (7) but no more than fourteen (14) days before the Annual Meeting) The budget must be presented at the hearing, in plain language and in 3 components: Administrative, Program, and Capital.
May 7-14th	Mail SCHOOL BUDGET NOTICE to all qualified voters of the school district
May 13th	Voter Registration: Not more that 14 days or less than 5 days before election, 4 consecutive hours between 7am and 8pm.
May 20th	Budget Vote and Election (Annual Meeting) 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM
July 1st	2008 – 2009 Budget Implemented
