Schedule & Timeline for the Work As many of you know, the State Education Department (SED) must review and approve the plans and specification for all of the work outlined above and must issue the Building Permits to the District, before these projects can be advertised/issued for bidding and construction can begin.
In January 2008, SED advised all Districts that they had received over 800 sets of new plans from District’s throughout the State seeking Building Permits for EXCEL funded projects. The volume of plans received, combined with the retirement of a key staff member has increased their estimated time for the review of these plans from 14 weeks to 25 weeks.
The Building Permit for Phase 1 was received last year and the replacement of the Slate Roof was started and will be completed this summer. The building Permit for Phase 2 was received in February 2008 and the construction of the classroom wing at the rear of the HS is scheduled to begin in April 2008 and will be substantially completed in December 2008 and ready for occupancy in January 2009.
The Plans for Phase 3 were submitted to SED in December of 2007 and the district is anticipating the receipt of the Building Permit for this Phase in August/September of 2008. The Plans for Phase 4 are currently being prepared and will be submitted to SED within the next two months and this work is scheduled to begin in the Spring/Summer of 2009.
In September of 2009, the 6th Grade will be moving from the Elementary School to the Middle School and a Pre-K program will be offered at the Elementary School. The sequencing of the work for Phases 3 and 4 work will be adjusted to focus on the completion of the academic areas as necessary to accommodate the 6th grade and Pre-K program, followed by work involving the secondary library, guidance, and administrative offices.
The district team is committed to the completion of our EXCEL project within budget in a timely manner, with minimal impact to our instructional and extracurricular programs.
