Dear Parents/Guardians:
As a helpful reminder please review the guidelines and law regarding safety and traffic rules governing school busses.
Effective April 21 we will be enforcing the following procedures at the Catskill High School:
Between 7:15 and 7:45 AM and 2:00 until 2:30 PM all drivers dropping off and/or picking up students at CHS are asked to:
- Pull entirely past the “loading zone,” as identified by our “No Parking” signs and orange cones, and pick up or discharge students in front of our Auditorium
OR
- Use the West Bridge Street entrance to the campus and discharge students by the crosswalk near the corner of our Auditorium
The benefit is primarily to you as a driver. We hope to eliminate an ongoing concern with regard to bus and automobile traffic.
The Administration will be enforcing this practice in conjunction with the Catskill Village Police. Drivers will be directed to move their vehicles and may be ticketed. We anticipate your cooperation on this important issue.
Please phone the High School or the Transportation Office at 943-2300 should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
William Ball William MuirheadCHS Principal Director of Transportation

SED and the Department of Transportation have regulations governing the conduct of motor vehicles and school bus vehicles. These regulations apply to all public roadways and highways and to private roads and private property. Do not under any circumstance attempt to pass, overtake, cut in front, or otherwise circumvent a school bus on our school property or roadways when that school bus vehicle is engaged in activity described below:
1174: OVERTAKING AND PASSING SCHOOL BUS: (a) The driver of a vehicle upon a public highway, street or private road upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus marked and equipped as provided in subdivision twenty of section three hundred seven-five of this chapter which has stopped on the public highway, street or private road for the purpose of receiving or discharging any passenger, or which has stopped because a school bus in front of it has stopped to receive or discharge any passengers, shall stop the vehicle before reaching such school bus when there is in operation on said school bus a red visual signal as specified in subdivision twenty of section three hundred seventy-five of this chapter and said driver shall not proceed until such school bus resumes motion, or until signaled by the driver or a police officer to proceed. For the purpose of this section, and in addition to the provisions of section one hundred thirty-four of this chapter, the term "PUBLIC HIGHWAY' SHALL MEAN ANY AREA FOR THE PARKING OF MOTOR VEHICLES OR USED AS A DRIVEWAY LOCATED ON THE GROUNDS OF A SCHOOL OR OF A BOARD OF COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES FACILITY OR ANY AREAS USED AS A MEANS OF ACCESS TO AND EGRESS FROM SUCH SCHOOL OR FACILITY.
